News

(Updated 04/21/2008)

Here we go, an update for ya'll.

This came via email to me. It was sent to us by Guy O'Connor, SWC Vice-Chairman West, I imagine you received it as well. But it is news and here it is for us to share with everyone.

Drive To Remember For Fallen Officers will be in your area in early May 2008. As of now, they have escort from Blue Knights into the city of Las Vegas, NV and to the New Mexico Border from Las Vegas. If anyone is interested they are looking for riders to escort them into New Mexico, but I believe you can get in on the action in California also, it's never too late. I am one of two police officers from Vancouver, Canada. We are about to leave on April 30 for our 2nd Annual "Drive To Remember For Fallen Officers" to Washington DC to attend the National Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony on May 15.

The purpose of the Drive is to raise awareness about law enforcement line-of-duty deaths. This is an open invitation to all AZ law enforcement agencies to show your support and drive with us to honor the 224 officers killed in Arizona. We will be driving through Arizona on May 06 from Las Vegas to Phoenix escorted by 18 AZ Chapter Blue Knights motorcycles. On May 07 we drive north from Phoenix on the I-17 to Flagstaff then east on the I-40.

As a tribute to those officers killed in 2007 in the USA & Canada we proudly display their names on the hood of our vehicle. We are driving a 2007 Hummer H3 equipped with police emergency lights, siren and a law enforcement wrap.

Please contact us to set up exact times and/or meet points. On the night of May 06 we will be attending the Law Enforcement Appreciation night at the AZ D'Backs game in Phoenix.

Words from The President

Greetings Blue Knights.

Final renewal numbers are in and they look great. At the February meeting it was reported that we had 31 members and a couple of new applications have come in since. Great job of recruiting and spreading the word about the Club. The weather has not been the best for riding lately, but there is lots of hope for the near future. So charge those batteries, gas up that tank and shine that chrome cause plenty of rides coming up, Although it might seem early, we want to get an jump start on planning this years poker run, so if you have any ideas or would like to volunteer for any part in the event come to the meeting or send us an email. Look forward to meeting the new members and seeing some of the returning members at the meetings and/or rides. RIDE WITH PRIDE!

The BLUE KNIGHTS ® is a non-profit fraternal organization consisting of active and retired law enforcement men & women who enjoy riding motorcycles. In the Spring of 1974, several law enforcement officers from the Bangor, Maine (USA) area met and and formed a small, local motorcycle club. The rest, as they say, is history. Soon, Blue Knight chapters were being formed in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and beyond. With the addition of Canada, and later Australia, the Blue Knights became an international organization. Many Blue Knights work long and hard to raise money for various charities. Especially near to our hearts is helping children. Make-a-Wish Foundation, Toys for Tots, D.A.R.E., and Concerns of Police Survivors are some examples of our favorites.

According to the By-Laws, our purposes and goals are to:
1. Provide for the mutual assistance, enjoyment, entertainment, education, physical, mental and social benefit of its members and the general public.
2. To promote and advance the sport of motorcycling and the safety of motorcycling.
3. To serve the interests of motorcycle owners and users.
4. To promote by example and any other acceptable means, safe use, operation and enjoyment of motorcycles.
5. To develop a fraternal spirit between law enforcement personnel and the general public.

The Blue Knights is a family fraternity. Spouses and children often accompany our members to the various rides and functions. When travelling, local members can provide assistance, directions and sometimes a place to stay. We are truly a family. Among the Blue Knight members,"There are no strangers, only friends you haven't met."

As a Chapter of the Blue Knights International we strive to follow the by-laws and maintain a good image of the Blue Knights. We are comprised of federal and local law enforcement, as well as area military, which includes, but is not limited to, Brawley, Calexico, and El Centro Police Departments, California Highway Patrol, The California Dept. of Corrections, United States Customs, Imperial County Sherrif's Dept., United States Border Patrol, the United States Navy and Marines, and the California National Guard. We hold our monthly meetings on the first thursday of each month in a location usually decided upon at the previous meeting. There we discuss all upcoming rides, events, and any other business that may come up. One of our goals is to have at least one chapter ride per month. Not only one, but at least one. So far this year we're doin' good.

Imperial Valley has a diverse and rich collection of Resources in the form of Human Power, Infrastructure and Economic Development.
